Wildlife and You

Living in Fairfax or Loudoun County has its benefits, and the beautiful vegetation is high up on the list. However, as we all know, along with priviledges come some disadvantages: fleas, ticks, mange, and all the diverse wildlife.

Unfortunately, some of these creatures travel through our yards. Fairfax and Loudoun Counties discourage the public from feeding, let alone taking in, these animals. If you find a wild animal hurt or abandoned, there are wildlife rescue organizations that work through the shelters. Local animal hospitals cannot treat wildlife. If you come across a wild animal in need of help, your best course of action would be to call Animal Control. If you choose to take the animal in, you must be responsible for contacting a rescue organization and be willing to transport it to them.

Even though this is a luxurious area, it's better to appreciate the nature from afar.

Microchip, Microchip, Microchip!!!

We can't say that enough. We hear clients say it all the time.

"My pet doesn't go outside."

"My pet will never get away."

Believe us, it happens. Weekly, we hear from at least one client that their dog or cat got away from them. The best $56.00 you can spend on your pet is to have a microchip implanted. It's $38.00 for the doctor to implant it and a one time registration fee of $17.50. Shelters and clinics nationwide scan stray pets for them. One of the biggest lessons we learned from Hurricane Katrina is to make sure your companion is chipped so you can get him/her back. Call us for an appointment now.
